Krapp's Last Tape
by Samuel Beckett
Patrick McDonnell plays Beckett's Krapp, confronting recordings of his younger self in a lyrical meditation on memory.
On his 69th birthday, a man sits alone and listens to the echoes of his younger self. Krapp's Last Tape by Samuel Beckett is an absurdist one-act play about an isolated, aging man who listens to audio diaries he recorded decades earlier. Confronted by the hopeful, romantic, and arrogant voice of his 39-year-old self, the 69-year-old Krapp is forced to grapple with the bitter realities, regrets, and failures of his life. Samuel Beckett's one act play is a beautifully lyrical piece, centred on moments of epiphany, tenderly interpreted by Patrick McDonnell.
